  • Period and provenance: 1915 - 1984. Acquired from Emma Raphael from 1971 onwards.
  • Contents: autobiography, journals, manuscripts and collected resources, correspondence, personalia.

Special Collections, The Getty Research Institute, Los Angeles

  • Description: Max Raphael papers, Finding aid.
  • Period and provenance: 1931 - 1989. Important contributions by Raphael’s disciple Ilse Hirshfeld.
  • Contents: manuscripts, correspondence (also documenting efforts to publish Raphael’s work posthumously), microfilm of papers in the Germanishes Nationalmuseum, Nuremburg.

  • Description: Max-Raphael-Sammlung.
  • Period: 1932 - 1965.
  • Contents: manuscripts and correspondence with Erna Siegel.

Warburg-Haus, Hamburg

  • Description: Warburg-Archiv, Stiftungsarchive in Deutschland
  • Period and contents: The archive of the Aby Warburg Foundation contains a small ‘Nachlass’ of Max Raphael. No description is currently available of its contents.
